Today I discovered that my favourite dish on the FRESH menu will not appear on the new menu being launched tomorrow! Thank goodness I got to stuff my face with deliciousness one last time. The Jerusalem Bowl is a tasty combo of flax hummus, grilled spinach, tomato, cucumber, parsley, red onion, sunflower sprouts, olive oil, tamari, mixed herbs, lemon & chili powder on a bed of basmati rice. I’m sure I’ll find something equally as good on the new menu but change is hard…
BTW: If you have never eaten a meal at FRESH-get off your ass and do it. I have never been disappointed-other fav’s include the quinoa puffed onion rings, the black bean burrito and the energy bowl. I am also addicted to the liver flush elixir and the miso gravy!
If you come over to my house anytime and open the fridge you are always going to find the following:
1. Mixed Leafy Greens/Legumes (kale, baby spinach, Broccoli etc..)
3. Huge condiments and sauce collection including my beloved Sriracha, mustard collection and Maple Syrup
*Other usual staples include: cured meat and cheese!

I am not even going to get into the many reasons that I have neglected this blog and all my followers for so long…let’s just say that I’m back and ready to inspire, cook, drink and be merry.
Last night I got together with a couple of my gal pals to do make some goodies for Christmas. We each decided to make a liqueur to give away my choice was Homemade Irish Cream! Needless to say it turned out better than I imagined and I PROMISE you that you will never ever buy pre bottled Irish Cream again!
- 1 cup 18% cream
- 14 oz sweetened condensed milk (1can)
- 1 2/3 C Jameson’s Irish Whiskey
- 1 tsp instant coffee
- 2 Tbsp Hershey’s chocolate syrup
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 tsp almond extract (I skipped this entirely)
- Combine all ingredients in a blender and set on high speed for 30 seconds.
- Bottle in a tightly sealed container and refrigerate. Shake before using

I often use sriracha in my cooking and i have to confess it goes on as a condiment for nearly everything. I first discovered this delicious and spicy ketchup like sauce (don’t let the look of it deceive you!) about 8 years ago. I can’t remember the why or the how but I do know that’s about the time I started getting a lot more adventurous with my meals.
Anyway this afternoon, I was sitting at a restaurant in China Town when I started to think about all the things that you can do and make with sriracha. My secret combo is an olive oil, maple syrup, lemon juice and sriracha mix; Incredible as a marinade or even a salad dressing.
Here’s my challenge: Send me your favorite ways to use sriracha and i will post them on this site and use them in my own foodventures! I cannot wait to discover some new ideas with my cannot live without condiment.
Guilty Pleasure Alert….Devilled Eggs!
Here’s a question: Would you ever eat more than 2 eggs in a sitting? I know that I wouldn’t but when it comes to devilled eggs…well that’s a whole different story. It is the only time in my life that I can say “Yes I have eaten 5 eggs in one short span of time and I’m ok with it”. Lot’s of people like to add different ingredients to this dish but I actually prefer the simple ole classic recipe that my mother always made…(the only change is that I substitute Mayo for plain yogurt.)
- 12 hard Boiled Eggs (click here for more info on how to cook the perfect hard boiled egg)
- 1/4 cup of Greek Yogurt
- 2 TBSP of Dijon Mustard
- 1 Medium Size Dill Pickles finely chopped
- Salt and Pepper to taste
- Paprika to garnish

My friend Erin brought over a whole bunch of goodies from her garden, including a bunch of beets. I love beets and usually just boil them and have them on hand to snack on or throw in a salad. Yesterday, I was online getting some food ideas for dinner and stumbled across the idea of a beet and chocolate cupcake. Here’s my take on this great recipe…You will be amazed at how moist the beets make this loaf and you will be shocked at the flavour. SO DELICIOUS!
- 2 cups of all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 tsp of baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 1/2 cups of sugar
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 3 eggs, beaten
- 1 cup Sunflower Oil
- 2 tsp vanilla
- 1 cup cooked and grated beets

I am really excited that Thanksgiving is coming up, it’s my favorite holiday and I will be heading to Northern Ontario to visit with family and friends. But first, I get to see Jesus Christ Superstar at the Stratford Festival! Just a thought, but you should WOW your people with this Chocolate and Beet cake at your Thanksgiving Festivities…
About 2.5 hours east of Toronto off the 401 hides a gorgeous part of Ontario known as “The County”. Up until 3 weeks, I had no idea that this incredible place existed. I fell into a work contract in Wellington Ontario by The Festival Players of Prince Edward County and it has turned out to be better than I could ever have imagined.
The County (as it’s referred to by locals) is home to the “new” wine country and manufactures some of the most incredible local foods. From sweat peas, to artisan cheese and delicious cider, it really is a place that anyone interested in local, whole foods should come to visit and support.
Yesterday. I bought this great book called The Ontario Table by Lynn Orgryzlo and she states that if everyone one in Ontario spent $10.00/week on local food, drink and products it would generate billions of dollars into Ontario’s economy which means more jobs, more education and more accountability to the people by the people. The choice to know where your food comes from and how it’s made. If you think about it $10.00/week isn’t very much. In fact with $10.00 you can buy a bottle of wine or a block of cheese or a bag of vegetables from your farmer’s market or fresh berries or mustards, or jams or…i mean the list is endless and it’s so easy to do anytime of the year. And it’s a lot easier than you would think no matter where you call home- Think about it and join me in this $10.00 a week challenge!
Today I spent the day visiting a few local hot spots in The County and got some great and tasty finds! I enjoyed the best pizza EVER at the County Cider Company, scored some delicious cheese at Fifth Town Artisan Cheese Co and The Black River Cheese Company, got spoiled with ice cream made by the Kawartha Dairy Company and purchased a few bottles of wine from the Waupoos Winery. A solid day of local fare!
